Roskam Refuses To Even Discuss Dreamers

Peter Roskam refused to meet with a group of clergymen to discuss a pathway to citizenship for our Nation’s Dreamers.  The 6th Congressional District has over 2,700 Dreamers waiting for an answer on a Clean DACA bill without Trump strings attached.  Say something meaningful ON THE RECORD Representative Roskam!

Will you support the Dreamers with a Clean DACA Citizenship Bill Rep. Roskam?

Will you support the Dreamers with a Clean DACA Citizenship Bill Rep. Roskam?

According to the Chicago Sun-Times,  ” A group of religious leaders held an hour-long conference call earlier this week with Roskam to seek his support for the DACA legislation. Roskam declined.  He was very gracious, but he was noncommittal. He said he thinks it has to be tied to increased border security,” said Father Corey Brost, representing Priests for Justice for Immigrants.”

For the record, let’s define DACA participants so that no one can twist the facts.  They aren’t criminals.  They don’t claim welfare.  DACA participants must have arrived in the U.S. before age 16; been 30 or younger on June 15, 2012; be in school or have a high school diploma, GED certificate or honorable discharge from the military; and have no serious criminal offenses.

Call congressman Roskam and demand that he support a clean DACA pathway to citizenship bill without strings to funding the border wall or curtailing legal immigration.

New Poll Shows District 6 Voters Support ACA by a wide margin!

The Chicago Sun-Times published an article about a new advertising campaign criticizing Peter Roskam for his positions contrary to polls showing that District 6 voters support the Affordable Care Act and funding for Planned Parenthood that serves over 60,000 women in Illinois.

Marching to the sound of his own drummer and against the wishes of his own constituents Peter Roskam continues to defy his own voters!  See the article here:  Click here for the article

Chicago Sun-Time Rips Roskam For Ducking Constituents

Echoing long running complaints from voters in the Illinois Congressional 6th District about Peter Roskams dogged refusal to attend open meetings with his constituents, the Chicago Sun-Time Editorial Board chimed in on April 25th with  an editorial entitled “Come out, come out, wherever you are, Peter Roskam”.

The Editorial ripped the congressman from the Illinois 6th Congressional District for refusing to meet in open forums with the residents of his district.

As the Editorial correctly points out “Roskam misses the point. Or maybe he lacks courage. A town hall meeting may not result in a “productive” discussion of public policy, but it sends a message that he is listening to his constituents. The same way he listens to lobbyists with money.”

Trump To Cut Funding For Public Libraries!

Tell Roskam to fight to restore funding for American Libraries!

President Trumps new Federal budget calls for the complete elimination of funding support for public libraries.  According to the American Library Association, “The President has proposed eliminating virtually all federal library funding and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the agency that distributes most of the funds to every state in the nation. Now budget-cutters in Congress are considering whether to follow his lead.”  Peter Roskam has consistently voted against socially beneficial programs like these so we need your help to convince him to restore funding for these libraries!

NOW is the time to declare your support of our library system.  Contact Congressman Peter Roskam and declare your support for libraries and urge him to support full funding for these worthwhile programs including the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) and Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) programs.

Don’t wait!  Contact Congressman Roskam today to express your support for funding public libraries in America.

Roskam and Hultgren vote to allow ISPs to sell your personal information for a profit!

Voting for House Resolution 230, Republicans voted on March 28, 2017 to roll back privacy rules established by the FCC that will allow Internet Service Providers to collect and sell Americans personal information to anyone for a profit.  Both congressmen Roskam and Hultgren voted along party lines to roll back privacy rules established during the Obama administration.  15 brave Republicans did break with their party to vote against this major privacy give away but neither of our congressmen joined them.

Under the regulation rollback, there are few limits on the ways Internet providers can collect and use your  sensitive data. That includes not just allowing providers to create marketing profiles based on your browsing history, but will also let them deploy undetectable software tools to track your web traffic.

“They can use your information and sell it to the highest bidder,” California congresswoman Anne Eshoo stated. “I think it’s a sad day if the bill passes.”

Rubber Stamp Roskam doggedly follows strict party line

What will it take to get Peter Roskam to listen to his constituents instead of national party big-wigs?

According to the Chicago Tribune, Roskam backs the tax provisions in the ACA repeal which would give big tax cuts to medical device makers, insurance companies and wealthy Americans.

Roskam has a long record for pro-business voting that is reflected in his campaign donors roster and consistently supports tax cuts that heavily favor the rich and powerful.

Roskam Ignores Constituents – Supports ACA destruction to the very end

Despite a massive outcry from District 6 constituents Roskam vowed to vote for the repeal of the Affordable Care ACT including last minute draconian cuts in coverage demanded by ultra-conservative members of the House Freedom Caucus.

Changes to the bill which Roskam continued to support included:

  • Repealing the requirement that health insurance plans cover a core set of essential health benefits such as hospitalizations, maternity care, prescription drugs, as well as mental health and substance use disorder treatment.
  • If this provision was repealed, insurers would be free once again to arbitrarily cut off coverage for patients because their treatment is too expensive.

What will it take to get our right-wing representative to listen to the voters?

Roskam vows not to hold town meetings!

On February 2, 2017 Crains Chicago Business

quoted the Roskam staff as saying

"He will never hold an open town hall meeting."

Welcome to the new Roskam-Watch web page created to make constituents in the Illinois 6th Congressional District aware of the positions and voting record of Representative Peter Roskam.

Representative Roskam has made it a consistent practice to avoid interaction with his constituents and only meets with fellow party members in closed door meetings.

We're just getting started, so give us a little time to gather the relevant information you need to make an informed decision in the next election.

Our goal is to provide transparency of what our congressman is doing and strive to make him aware when he doesn't represent the views of local voters. In 8 years, Mr. Roskam has not met openly with people in his district to discuss issues.
